Kurrajong Therapy Plus have been providing outreach services in the Narrandera area for many years. However, without having a permanent base the therapists have had to carry all the tools they need with them from Wagga Wagga or Griffith and have been reliant on families or schools hosting them for therapy sessions. The recent completion of the Kurrajong Narrandera Office has been a breath of fresh air for the three Allied Health professionals who now have a permanent base in the area.
Kurrajong Therapy Plus continue to provide Speech Pathology, Educator and Occupational Therapy services via outreach, now with access to a beautiful, accessible and air-conditioned space to invite clients to.
This means fewer occasions where Narrandera clients are required to travel to Wagga or Griffith for supportsHaving clients come to Kurrajong, rather than the team always going to the clients, cuts down on travel times and frees up precious time for appointments.
Local mum, Paris Burrill stated “Having this new building in town means my 2 kids can receive therapy without having to travel for appointments. Not everyone is able to travel an hour for therapy, so it’s great to be able to receive these services locally.”
The new building provides other benefits too. Having storage for resources ensures that the therapists and educator are better able to tailor their sessions specifically for their clients. The team can now be more flexible and change the focus of the session as needed, without worrying that they don’t have the right resources to hand. With access to kitchen and laundry spaces, the range of occupational therapy services that can be offered to young adult clients, seeking to become more independent at home, has increased, while the connection with Kurrajong Narrandera Lifestyle Choices, (housed within the same building) means that emerging life skills can be well supported and regularly practiced. Additionally, the team are better able to direct the energy they have historically used to grab a bite on the run or find a public rest room between sessions, into supporting their clients, as the new Narrandera office is equipped with fully accessible bathrooms and kitchens.
While the Kurrajong Therapy Plus team will continue to provide home and school visits as appropriate throughout Narrandera, their new base offers a place for families to come to which feels safe, comfortable and convenient.
