Brian Reasin is the perfect example of what can be achieved through supported employment services.
Brian has been a member of the Kurrajong Recycling team for just over 12 months and in that time has come along in leaps and bounds.
His journey with the Kurrajong team isn’t a typical one – unlike most supported workers, prior to joining Kurrajong Recycling, Brian had never accessed any Kurrajong services.
His employment came as the result of sheer determination and a desire to be part of the team – he rang then manager Craig Salan nearly every day asking if there was any work available. Recognising Brian’s determination and tenacity, Craig brought him on board.
The Brian that joined the Kurrajong team however is very different to the team member of today.
Mum Sandra says his confidence has skyrocketed since joining Recycling, and he is now doing many things he previously would never have dreamed of, because of factors such as crowds and noise.
Things like taking part in ten pin bowling tournaments (he is in a team that plays every Saturday) and going on outings.
He also runs the monthly Kurrajong Recycling sausage sizzle for staff, and serves those sausages with a smile.
“He comes home and tells us all about what he’s doing. He has so much more confidence, more confidence in himself.”
