Exploring Opportunities: Kurrajong Tours for School Leavers

To showcase the exciting options available for school leavers, Kurrajong hosted two informative tours on August 28th in Wagga Wagga and September 5th in Griffith. These events aimed to provide school leavers and their support networks with insights into the fantastic programs and services Kurrajong offers post-school.

Wagga Wagga Tour Highlights

The Wagga Wagga tour kicked off at Employment Preparation, where guests boarded the comfortable Kurrajong 12-seater bus for their first stop at Hildasid Farm and Lifestyle Choices. Here, attendees were given an overview of the various programs under Lifestyle Choices and the opportunity to explore the beautiful sensory garden.

Next on the agenda was Kurrajong Timber. Guests enjoyed a guided tour through the timber sheds, witnessing the impressive teamwork and machinery in action. The visitors were visibly impressed by the collaboration and productivity among the workers.

A quick stop at the Lord Baden Powell Drive headquarters allowed for discussions about Kurrajong Catering, Maintenance, and the administration team’s remarkable contributions. The guests learned about Supported Independent Living and the different living options available at Kurrajong, sparking interest among several students aspiring to move out of home in the future.

The tour continued to Kurrajong Recycling, where guests gained an insider’s view of the various operations within the recycling sections. The school students posed insightful questions, demonstrating their eagerness to learn.

The final stop brought everyone back to Employment Preparation, where Therapy Plus provided information on the exceptional services offered by their Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Educators. Norm Corcoran shared insights about the First Contact program, highlighting the essential work done behind the scenes to introduce new participants to Kurrajong’s services. Daniel Scott wrapped up the tour with an overview of the Employment Preparation facilities and information on the Youth Employment Accelerator (YEA) program.

Guests were treated to a delicious catered lunch from Kurrajong Catering, which provided an excellent opportunity to converse with managers and team leaders. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in making the Wagga Wagga tour a success—we look forward to making it even bigger and better next year!

Griffith Tour Highlights

The Griffith tour also began at Employment Preparation, where guests hopped into the comfortable Kurrajong van for their first stop at Lifestyle Choices. Like the Wagga Wagga tour, guests received an overview of the programs and explored the fantastic resources and activities at Banna Ave.

The next stop was Therapy Plus, where attendees learned about the outstanding services provided by our Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Educators. Guests were able to see the space and resources utilised during therapy sessions, further enhancing their understanding of the services offered.

Daniel Scott concluded the tour with a detailed look around the Employment Preparation facilities and insights into the YEA program.

Once again, guests enjoyed a catered lunch prepared by Kurrajong staff and volunteers, facilitating meaningful conversations with managers and team leaders. A big thank you to all those who contributed to the Griffith tour’s success—let’s aim for an even more significant event next year!
