Lani met with her Coordinator Kerrie to discuss her goals and what she liked to do in her life. Her answer was that she liked to work with animals, help out in the garden and do other outdoor jobs at home.
Lani and her Coordinator Kerrie had been looking for a volunteer work placement where Lani could work with horses or plants. Kerrie contacted Jill at Cadell Place, and they were more than happy to give Lani the opportunity to do volunteer work with them.
Cadell Place then put Lani and Kerrie in touch with Mary from Garden Art Creations, which is a business that runs inside Cadell Place.
Mary was able to set up Lani to help with general maintenance and watering. Mary and Lani then talked about how they could use the empty wheelbarrow Mary had, and they decided that this would be Lani’s project and that Lani would make a fairy wheelbarrow garden.
Mary supplied the plants and dirt and gave Lani some direction as to how she wanted the garden to look but also said to Lani use your imagination and do what you think will look good. The project is still a work in progress.
Mary says that she is really enjoying getting to know Lani as she has a delightful positive energy and that Lani is so creative. Mary and Lani would like to keep nurturing this creative side of Lani and to continue this adventure of community connection.
